Schools

The North Bend Central school district has been called the crown jewel of North Bend, churning out productive members of society class after class. NBC averages about 52 students per class in high school and about 40 students per class in the elementary school.

Students attend classes in two buildings, with grades Pre-K through 5 in the elementary building and grades 6-12 in the high school building. Grades 6-8 are part of the NBC middle school in a section of the high school building with their own entrance and locker room.

In 2018, NBC was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education for overall academic excellence. Read more about this honor from the North Bend Eagle.

In 2018 North Bend Central students earned the 11th highest average ACT score out of all 240 Nebraska high schools.

When the coronavirus pandemic closed school for the fourth quarter of 2020, NBC was able to begin online instruction after a two-day break thanks in part to the districts 1-to-1 initiative, which meant every student already had a laptop or tablet computer. Students safely returned to in-person class that fall.

The information and stats below are as of the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

After School

After-School Program

In 2016, North Bend Central began an after-school program at the elementary school. The program, run by a teacher with para-educators and high school students assisting, gives students time to work on homework, partake in an activity and provides a snack.

Some activities untaken by the program include writing and filming a movie, conducting science experiments, learning about computer programming, and engineering a structure using toothpicks and gum drops.

The after-school program runs until 5 p.m. daily with a small fee for students attending.

The elementary school also offers an after-school Math Academy for kindergartners through second graders twice a week.
